So ... What did you do on 11/11/11?

Posted on November 11, 2011

On the 11th of November 2011, a lovely sunny Friday morning, Sci-Enza staff decided to “walk the walk”; they followed the red route, a 3,8 km spoor trail that starts in front of the Client Service Centre (CSC) and takes you through the “out of sight scenes of campus”. The trail was established to promote staff and student fitness as well as campus site awareness. ” You would be amazed by how little we notice our surroundings when we rush about our daily business on campus”, said Helga Nordhoff.

Half way!
After 55 minutes on the trail, CSC was in sight and those who still had some energy left sprinted over the finish line. The rest of the team followed, their faces wet with sweat. I guess we are not as fit as we look.

However, a healthy brain never rests and while out walking the beautiful gardens were scrutinised. "It would be a good thing if UP staff and students who walk the trail could be entertained by outdoor science exhibits along the route", suggested Rudi Horak (Manager of Sci-Enza). After all, learning is fun and is not only meant for the classroom.

According to the Sci-Enza team, this walk has been a nice team building exercise. Therefore, do yourself a favor TUKS and  “walk the walk” to support a healthy lifestyle.
