Prof Jeané Cloete
Prof Jeané Cloete is a paediatrician and medical educator based at the University of Pretoria and Steve Biko Academic Hospital. She completed her MBChB at Stellenbosch University and her MMed in Paediatrics at the University of Pretoria. She also holds Diplomas in Child Health and HIV Management and a Fellowship in Paediatrics from the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. Her clinical focus areas include paediatric HIV care, malnutrition, infectious diseases, COVID-19, and rheumatology. Since being appointed a consultant in 2012, Prof Cloete has played a leading role in undergraduate and postgraduate education, currently serving as Vice Chairperson of the Postgraduate Committee. She is a graduate of the SAFRI/FAIMER Medical Education Fellowship. Prof Cloete's research interests include paediatric infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, and medical education. She has published in The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health and the South African Medical Journal. She has contributed to national clinical guidelines as a member of the South African Paediatric HIV Guidelines Committee. She is Head of Clinical Unit at Steve Biko Academic Hospital, leading services in paediatric HIV, rheumatology, and general paediatrics, and serves as a council member of the College of Paediatricians of South Africa.
