Nurses, Kidz & HIV workshop

Posted on October 10, 2013

The workshop was well attended and delegates came to Kalafong Hall from the local clinics of Laudium, Odi, Sedipe Hope, SGL Nursing College, Garankuwa, Folong, Atteridgeville clinic, FF Robeiro, Phedisong, Refentse, City of Tshwane, and Kalafong ARV/Tuberculosis clinics.

Dr U. Feucht started off with a didactic session on the vision and planning of the Tswane District team followed by a presentation from Kalafong's very own dietician, Mrs. W. Badenhorst.

The delegates then had an update on current Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, paediatric and adolescent ARV practices presented by Dr W. Thomas.

This was followed by case discussions with audience participation. Dr N. Du Plessis, the Infectious Diseases specialist at Kalafong, discussed tuberculosis and HIV. Updates on Paediatric consent, disclosure and ARV adherence issues were presented by Mr D. Vertue, the Paediatric Social Worker at Kalafong.

The workshop was concluded with testimony of the experiences of two sisters who work in the Paediatric ARV clinic at Kalafong, sister Sinah and sister Lizzie.

Fun was had by all with a tremendous amount of positive feedback from the audience about the workshop curriculum, venue, catering and presentations.

Thank you,

Dr Win Thomas
