Oral Pathology provides a biopsy service for patients with head and neck lesions who attend the Oral and Dental Hospital and Pretoria Academic Hospital.  In addition, biopsy services are also rendered for patients in the private sector throughout South Africa.  

The Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Department is an integral part of the Southern African Centre for Orofacial Diseases (SACOD) which is involved in the improvement of oral health on the Southern African subcontinent.  In conjunction with the Department of Periodontology and Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology offers an oral health service to HIV/AIDS patients at the Kalafong Immunology Clinic.  This service is not only to the benefit of patients but provides in-service training to members of all health care professions on the management of the oral health of immuno-compromised patients.
