Inclusivity in Reproductive Health: Looking Back on the Reproductive Medicine 2022 Conference

Posted on October 03, 2022

The second Reproductive Medicine 2022 conference took place from the 2nd to the 4th of September. The conference, hosted by the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Unit at the University of Pretoria, highlighted some of the exciting work done at this unit and provided a platform for collaborative opportunities between UP and other universities (i.e. UCT, SU, UOFS, WITS, UKZN, SMU).

The theme of the conference was “Inclusivity in Reproductive Health”.  The conference focused on the neglected aspects of reproductive medicine such as: Adolescent health; transgender care; infertility; endometriosis; fertility preservation for cancer patients; psychological care in reproductive medicine and the role of embryologists and nurses.  Inclusivity also involved all our colleagues in ensuring that there is an update on current developments in the field of reproductive medicine. The conference consisted of various pre-conference workshop proceedings covering topics such as hysteroscopy, sexual and reproductive health rights, assisted reproduction and advances in specialist ultrasound techniques. The proceedings boasted a variety of international key-note speakers and showcased the excellent quality of research conducted within the field in Southern Africa.
