Community Engagement

The Community Engagement portfolio works closely with UP-RAG and together we aim to leave a long-
lasting impact on the community, create strong relationships with organizations within our community
and inspire students, in their day to day, to think of the community at large. At the end of our term, we
hope to have encouraged students to be active within the community, even after their university
journey’s end. The above will be achieved by encouraging students to attend events and to participate
in our community projects, some of which are ongoing, ultimately increasing the sense of community in
the university. Finally, we hope some of our events and projects will inspire and encourage students in
their academic pursuits as some events are in line with the study programmes offered by the Faculty of
Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

Events successfully completed:

• Spreading cancer awareness on World Cancer Day
• RAG of Hope Day and won best partnership with Health House, our RAG partners for the year.
• Mandela week (in collaboration with UP-RAG)
• Veggie garden drive in collaboration with Starke Ayres.
• Animal shelter volunteering
