'The Rivonia Trial 50 years on: The courtroom as a space of resistance'

Posted on June 11, 2013

In arguably the most profound moment in the trial Nelson Mandela made a speech in the dock in which he condemned the very court he was appearing in as illegitimate. He then proceeded to argue that the laws in place were equally draconian and that defiance of these laws was justified.*

The Department of Jurisprudence in the Faculty of Law invites interested parties to attend this two-day conference on 18 and 19 June 2013.  The aim of the conference is to reflect on the trial as a space of resistance.
