UP Students welcome a new printing system

Posted on March 10, 2016

TuksPrint is a new quick and convenient printing system available in all UP campuses. The system enables students to manage all their printing, copying, and scanning needs from one unique print account, mobile or online.

After a comprehensive procurement and tender process, UP entered into a contract with Konica Minolta South Africa (KMSA) to provide Multifunction Devices (MFDs), empowering students on all campuses with advanced functions to print, copy and scan documents. This also involved a single solution print billing and release management software system (YSoft) to replace the previous PhoNet and P-counter billing systems.

The previous systems, PhoNet and P-counter were technologically out-dated, not cost effective, difficult to maintain and not user friendly, therefore a new system had to be implemented. The difference between the new and old system is that the new system is completely automated and much more user friendly, while the previous one required several manual interventions.

This new system is a web and mobile-enabled system which allows students to submit and manage their print jobs. It also allows them to manage their printing account from any smart mobile device or internet connected workstation computer.

Although UP students officially started to utilise the new printing system in January 2016, the system was implemented towards the end of December 2015 and as of 17 February 2016, an impressive total number of 523 197 transactions have been recorded on the new system, inclusive of printing, scanning and copying.

While the aforementioned statistics prove that the students have welcomed and adjusted to the new system with ease, it is important to note that the service is not only available to students but to staff members as well, in their personal capacity or if they are a UP student.
