A longstanding member of the Core Panel for the evaluation of South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) University-based Extramural Research Units, acting as Chairperson of the Review Panels tasked with undertaking the intensive, on-site 5-year reviews of these Research Units. This involves advance perusal of documentation in relation to adherence of the Unit to its mandate during the period under review, research productivity, community engagement, collaboration etc., as well as the compilation of reports and recommendations for submission to the Executive and Board of the SAMRC. Since 2012-2018, I have acted as Chairperson of every 5-year review of Extramural Research Units (RUs) undertaken by the SAMRC (n=18). The most recent of these are as follows: | |||
