The Graduate School of Technology Management (GSTM) nominated Prof Tarek Khalil to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Pretoria. Prof Khalil is a global academic leader with an outstanding career in the field of the Management of Technology (MoT). He was the Founding President of the International Association for the Management of Technology (IAMOT) in the USA. IAMOT promotes and advances the state of the art in management of technology and innovation research, education and practice worldwide. It became one of the most prominent and leading organisations in the MoT field, with membership from both academia and industry from every continent on the globe. Prof Khalil was also the Founder and previous President of the Nile University in Egypt.
Since the establishment of IAMOT three decades ago, the GSTM has had a long and fruitful relationship with the organisation. Over the years, GSTM academics not only presented numerous research papers at IAMOT conferences, but were active participants in organising international conferences (also in South Africa) and participating in various activities of IAMOT in the field of MoT research and education. Currently, four academics of the GSTM are members of the IAMOT Board, participating in various committees responsible for education, strategy and finances. IAMOT played a major role in enabling the GSTM to build a strong international academic network that not only supported the development of the quality of its research and education, but also to establish the GSTM as a very prominent institution in the field of management of technology and innovation.
