Posted on July 02, 2021

The University of Pretoria (UP) has made history with an unprecedented pass rate in the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) Initial Test of Competence (ITC). UP obtained a 100% pass rate in the April 2021 ITC exam for first time writers and an overall pass rate of 99,4% for all candidates. These historically exceptional results ensure that UP retains its first-place position in South Africa.

The ITC is the first of two qualifying exams that are written by prospective chartered accountants (CA(SA)) countrywide. Over the past 15 years UP showed consistent excellence with the highest national average pass rate of 94% for this professional exam.

“We are speechless as we congratulate our students and the CA Programme staff for literally achieving the impossible during one of the most challenging times for this generation,” said Prof Madeleine Stiglingh, CA Programme Coordinator and Head of the Department of Accounting at the University of Pretoria.

The Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, Prof Elsabé Loots, commended Prof Johan Oberholster, the 2020 CA Coordinator, the Heads of the four academic departments and all the lecturing staff on this stellar achievement. She said: “We are extremely proud of the performance of our students in the latest ITC results that clearly demonstrate that UP continues to be one of the leaders in the education of Chartered Accountants.”

We at UP are looking forward to the impact which our candidates will make in the future world of work.
