UP academic’s research aims to enhance decision-making skills

Posted on June 24, 2020

An article written by Dr Zack Enslin, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Financial Management, has been published in the Spring 2020 edition of Management Accounting Quarterly, a publication of the Institute of Management Accountants (USA). Management Accounting Quarterly is a refereed online journal that contains in-depth articles by and for academics and practitioners of accounting and financial management.

The title and summary are:

Enhancing Decision-Making Skills: Know and Avoid Frame Dependence Bias

Financial decision-making behaviour results in inconsistencies because the way information is presented may influence and manipulate the decision maker. Based on their pivotal role, management accountants must take note of possible decision frame bias in their own and others’ decision-making behaviour. The results from a new study indicate how to accomplish this.

“It is not an accredited research journal, but rather a journal which attempts to bridge the divide between academic papers and practicing members of the management accounting profession (e.g. members of the IMA),” says Dr Enslin. “The IMA assisted me in distributing my PhD questionnaire to a sample of their members. This article is one of the outputs from that research.”
