Team Fynergy

A group of students from the Department of Financial Management in UP’s Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences has excelled in the international CFO Case Study Competition. Seven UP groups out of 450 teams from 75 universities from around the world advanced to the second round in this year’s leg of the competition and ‘Team Fynergy’, comprising final-year BCom (Financial Sciences) students Zaneta Boshoff, Marissa Smith and Megan Hensaw, has made it to the semi-finals.

The CFO Case Study Competition is a global multi-stage business strategy and leadership-focused case study competition, organised by the CharterQuest  Institute South Africa. It challenges university students around the world to prove they can compete at the highest level: by solving a set of complex and integrated finance, operational, strategic and ethical problems that beset a real-world global business in the emerging markets.
The other teams who made it to the semi-finals are from:
  • University of Guelph-Humber, Canada
  • Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • University of Munster, Germany
  • Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria and
  • University of KwaZulu-Natal

The semi-finals will take place on 2 October 2018 at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and the finals on 3 October 2018 at the Finance Indaba, Sandton Convention Centre.

In the meantime, the students need to collect votes for their introduction video. Please help our UP team by watching, liking and sharing their video! Click here to view the video.

More information on the competition:
Semi-finals (Presentations)
The top six teams deliver their 10 minutes presentation to a mock board and take questions for a further 15 minutes. The mock board is comprised of a highly esteemed international panel of judges, who will then select the top three teams to compete at the finals the next day.

Finals (Extended case analysis and presentations)
An extended version of the case study is analysed over three hours, followed by a further presentation to the board (and audience) for 10 minutes. The judges will probe each team for a further 15 minutes on their analysis and recommended strategies and then decide the ultimate winner, to receive the  CharterQuest Future CFOs and Global Business Leaders 2018 Award.
