Welcome Day is one of the most important days on the University of Pretoria’s (UP) academic calendar. It’s the day we formally welcome our first-year students and their parents or guardians, into our family and community.

First-year students and their families are invited to attend Welcome Day on Saturday, 10 February 2024.

Please note that due to rain forecast for this day the event has been moved from the Tuks Stadium to the Rembrandt Hall, also on the UP Hillcrest Campus. The programme has also been split into two sessions to accommodate our guests:

First session:  08:00 - 10:00

Second session: 11:00 - 13:00

Due to venue capacity limitations, it is important for you to attend the session you have been allocated and be seated at least 30 minutes before the programme starts.

Those who have not RSVP'd can watch a live stream of the event here. We have also put together an informative article on what first-years need to know and can expect before their learning journey at UP kicks off.

At Welcome Day exhibitions and the Department of Enrolment and Student Administration (DESA) registration desk will be open. UP’s senior leadership team will be introduced and the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Themba Mosia, will deliver an address at both sessions.

Information will be provided about: academic orientation week, faculties, how to register and how to choose modules among other topics. Spot prizes will be up for grabs on the day.

• Early arrival will ensure parking inside the campus and access to the exhibitions before the formal programme commences.

• There are limited seats available and seating will take place on a first-come-first served basis.

• Remember to keep an eye on the University’s official communication channels – including its website (www.up.ac.za), Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter) channels – for any changes to the Welcome Day schedule.
