September 2014:

Three analytical chemistry postgraduate students from the Department of Chemistry won prizes for their presentations at the recent Analitika 2014 Conference, held at Khaya iBhubesi in Parys from 7 to 11 September.  Sifiso Nsibande, an MSc student supervised by Dr Patricia Forbes, won the Best student poster award in the field of mass spectrometry, as well as the Best student oral award in the field of chromatography.  Eve Kroukamp, a PhD student also supervised by Dr Patricia Forbes, won the second place prize for her poster in the field of mass spectrometry, and Wonder Nxumalo who is an MSc student supervised by Dr Yvette Naude, was awarded the second place prize for his poster in the field of chromatography.  Congratulations on these wonderful achievements!

September 2014:

Ian Strydom, who is currently an MSc student in the Department, has been awarded a James Moir Medal by the South African Chemical Institute for being the best BSc Honours student in chemistry at the University of Pretoria in 2013 and having achieved a minimum aggregate final mark of 75%.  Well done Ian!
