Record number of Education Doctorates at graduation

Five staff members were also awarded the PhD degree. They were Dr Nosipho Jaca with Dr Teresa Ogina as Supervisor. She did her thesis on ‘Investigating experiences of transition from a teacher to the head of the department’. Dr Jaca is from the Department of Education Management and Policy Studies; Dr Petrus Lombard with the Dean of the Faculty as Education, Prof Chika Sehoole, as Supervisor. Dr Lombard works as DESA. The title of his thesis was ‘Factors that influence the transition from high school to higher education: the case of the Junior-Tukkie Programme’. Dr Safia Mohamed with Prof Liesel Ebersöhn as Supervisor did her thesis on ‘Indigenous pathways to appraisal during resilience processes’. She is in the Department of Educational Psychology. Dr Kimera Moodley with Dr Ronel Callaghan as Supervisor did her thesis on Mobile learning: a professional teacher technical identity development framework’. Dr Moodley is in the Department of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education; Dr Susan Thuketana with Prof Miems Steyn as Supervisor did her thesis: ‘Creating meaningful learning opportunities for children with Cerebral Palsy in rural schools’. She is in the Department of Early Childhood Education. Dr Anienie Veldsman with Prof Ina Joubert as Supervisor did her thesis on ‘’n Spelgebaseerde geletterdheidsvoorbereidingsprogram vir die professionele ontwikkeling van Graad R-opvoeders’. She is also in the Department of Early Childhood Education.

34 Master’s degrees were awarded as well as 304 Distance Education Honours degrees.

Awarding 28 doctoral degrees in other graduation session is exceptional for the Faculty of Education!
