Dentistry has become a highly competitive business and the modern patient tends to be well educated with very high expectations of quality customer care and service.

It is therefore essential that dentists and oral hygienists of the 21st century are not only able to care for patients, but are also able to:

• be an effective manager and leader; 
• communicate well with patients; 
• utilise modern technology effectively. 

These skills are being taught to dental and oral hygiene students by means of the module Comprehensive Patient Management (CPM) in the Department of Dental Management Sciences.
