Commercii Long Term Outreach Project

Posted on April 04, 2016

The long-term outreach portfolio is such a life-changing one – on both sides of the spectrum. Our lives as an EC is changed as we are enriched by who we serve outside of our student peers and university and we hope to evoke change by making a difference or at least making someone else’s life a bit more comfortable.

The Pure Hope Kids Pre-Primary and Primary school fits the above-mentioned description like a glove. The school is situated at the Moreleta Congregation and is well-supported and structured. The school receives only R30 school fees per child per month, but exists because of miracles and donations almost daily. The principal of the school, Riana Anderson is a qualified occupational therapist and therefor understands how a child should be stimulated and prepared for all levels of education. The teachers are all passionate women who pour heart and soul into their work and the children they educate.

The children only came from ‘Plastic View”, the informal settlement next to the church, at first but now they’re also brought to school from Mamelodi and other settlements to receive the quality education Pure Hope provides.

What Riana requested from Commercii is assistance in broadening the children’s horizons, enriching their world. Therefor our focus for the year is to arrange either an excursion or a fun day for the children to help shape and establish their worldview.
