Vintage Voices: Echoes of Kofifi and the Spirit of Sophiatown

Posted on August 15, 2025

What a night! Vintage Voices Open Mic turned the University of Pretoria into a stage bursting with talent, style, and pure Kofifi spirit. Hosted by UP Library Services, CSS, and Commercii, the evening had it all with poetry, rap, singing, comedy, and a crowd that brought the vibe. The highlight of the night was none other than Keynote, the guest artist who has worked with the likes of Kabza de Small, Leemckrazy, and many more... Along with his band, he set the stage on fire and had the audience on their feet, proving why he is one of the most exciting names in the game right now.

But our students were the true stars of the evening, as their performances were simply unforgettable. From heartfelt poetry to powerful rap and soulful singing, they left the audience snapping, cheering, and asking for more. The winners of the night deserve to be praised. Belinda Mahori wowed everyone and walked away with the Best Act title, while Kamogelo Teffo turned heads and claimed Best Dressed. Both took home an epic prize of two tickets each to Homecoming Africa. The food was just amazing! From the delicious platters to the creamy hot chocolate and tasty treats like popcorn and candy floss, the treats kept everyone energized and added that extra touch of comfort to a night already full of joy.

Vintage Voices Open Mic was more than just a show; it was a celebration of student talent, culture, and creativity. One thing is for sure, this was a night to remember, and it has set the tone for even bigger and better events to come.
