On 20 August 2025, Commercii, the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) Faculty House, hosted the annual Sub-House Awards ceremony at the Plant Science Auditorium. The event provided a platform to acknowledge and celebrate the exceptional contributions of sub-houses and individuals to the faculty community over the past term.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the faculty’s sub-houses, including House IA, Tax@Tuks, Yes@Tuks, Tuks Finest, BAdmin@Tuks, House CA and HR Tuks. This year’s awards were particularly significant, as new trophies and award categories were introduced, expanding the scope of recognition for excellence within the sub-house structures.

The prestigious title of Sub-House of the Year was awarded to Tax@Tuks, in recognition of their outstanding overall contribution to the EMS Faculty throughout their term. Their efforts reflected a high standard ofleadership, innovation, and service.

In addition to the flagship award, four special awards were presented:
- Growth in Leadership Excellence: Lebogang Malunga
- Event of the Year: HR Tuks for their Career Fair
- Commercii Chairperson’s Honor: Ubuntu Ndube
- Phoenix Award: House IA

Alongside sub-house achievements, the ceremony also highlighted individual recognition where members were acknowledged for their dedication and performance in their respective portfolios. This recognition underscored the invaluable role of individual leaders in advancing both their sub-houses and the broader faculty community.

The programme commenced with welcoming remarks by Sub-House Representative Mr. Marcel Erasmus and the Commercii Chairperson, Ms. Zinhle Kakhanya, who emphasised the importance of leadership, collaboration, and service within the student body. Following the formal proceedings, attendees enjoyed a time of networking, food, and refreshments, which provided an opportunity to reflect on achievements, share experiences, and strengthen connections across the faculty.

The 2025 Sub-House Awards not only celebrated excellence but also reaffirmed Commercii’s commitment to nurturing leadership and student engagement while recognising the dedication and resilience of its sub-house leaders. This term has set a strong foundation for future student leaders, inspiring continued growth, innovation, and excellence in years to come.
