The final-year students in Supply Chain Management partnered with Lefa Cooperative during the second semester of 2015 for a practical consulting project. Lefa Co-op is a primary cooperative focused on empowering communities with online and mobile application services that enable smarter learning, connecting, sharing, and most importantly trading in products and services. Lefa’s key challenges are supply chain planning and management regarding sourcing, distribution and logistics.
The students were challenged to apply supply chain design principles by developing a supply chain strategy that ensures cost optimisation. The students rose to the challenge and suggested creative, unique ideas to Lefa Co-op’s member team during their project presentations. The supply chain strategies tabled by the students will assist Lefa Co-op to operate a click-and-collect distribution model using a network of collection points in the community as end-points for delivery and collection by consumer members.
Mr Tebogo Loate, a member of Lefa Co-op, expressed his gratitude to the students and lecturers for bringing many innovative ideas to the boardroom. The HP shop sponsored tablet PCs for each member of the top project team.
