EILA’s mission is to conduct research and generate insights into the legal and policy challenges surrounding extractive industry law, regulation, and related fields. It aims to build legal and policy capacity by developing and implementing cutting-edge higher education teaching plans and curricula.

Additionally, EILA seeks to promote expertise in these fields while actively contributing to their development across Africa. A key focus is on aligning its research and capacity-building initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure sustainable and equitable resource governance.

Through cutting-edge research, innovative legal and policy frameworks, and capacity-building programmes, we aim to empower lawyers, policymakers, industry professionals, and communities with the knowledge and skills to promote transparent, just, and sustainable resource governance across the continent.
