CEARV Research Streams and Objectives

Research within the centre will be directed towards addressing:

  • Clinical Research of infectious diseases

  • Development of diagnostics and pathogen discovery

  • Genomic surveillance

  • One Health surveillance

  • Global Health

  • Predictive modelling

  • Maternal and Child Health

Some of the transdisciplinary objectives of the Centre includes:

  • Mitigate the risk of emergence and reemergence of respiratory and arboviruses effected by climate change and global expansion of vectors, human and animal reservoirs.

  • Predict outbreaks of emerging and reemerging Arbo and respiratory viruses in Africa and internationally through modelling of environmental factors, vector and host factors.

  • Early detection of emerging and reemerging Arbo and respiratory viruses in the environment, animals and humans before it causes large outbreaks and spread to new regions through development of state-of-the-art diagnostics.

  • Establish integrated One Health syndromic and genomic surveillance in humans, animals and the environment.

  • Prevent outbreaks and limit their impact through development of vaccines, therapeutics and non-pharmaceutical interventions.
