Become an Entrepreneur

Just because you have a degree, doesn’t mean you plan on entering the commercial workforce. Many graduates aspire to become an entrepreneur and build their own business. This, of course, requires a whole extra set of skills, which is why Career Services has established entrepreneurship courses.

Entrepreneurship is another important skill that provides students and graduates with an opportunity for self-employment, while simultaneously promoting employability and job creation. Requisite entrepreneurial skills are seen as a driver of change in seeking self-sufficiency and job creation. Therefore, in addition to the Ready for Work programme, students can also enrol for the online Entrepreneurship Programme (a professional online development short course) that forms part of the Ready for Work initiative.

There are various opportunities at UP for training in entrepreneurship, from formal degrees to informal online courses:

  • BCom Entrepreneurship is a three-year programme and is also available on a postgraduate level. Go to the yearbooks for more information on the programme.
  • The UP Business Incubator in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences offers free support services to potential and new entrepreneurs on campus. Visit their website for more information.
  • Enterprises UP offer various courses on entrepreneurship, such as Business Management and Entrepreneurship and e-skills for entrepreneurs. Visit their website for more information.
