Are you struggling to pay your fees? Apply for financial aid today

Posted on June 10, 2020

The University of Pretoria (UP) cares for all our students and would like to ease the financial burden for you and your family.

We are currently in the grip of COVID-19, a global pandemic that has affected economies around the world. We know that times are tough, and that you and your family might need additional financial support.

That is why we are offering students the chance to apply for financial aid.

In order to offer help to you, we need to have your details on hand when funds become available. So we would like you to apply for financial aid by providing the following documentation:

  • Proof of Income (payslip / pension advices / audited financial statements) not older than 3 months for the working applicant / spouse / parents / legal guardian;
  • If no proof of income or if unemployed, an affidavit per individual stating the source of income / maintenance / allowances;
  • If the biological parents are divorced or the parent is single(never married) they must provide an affidavit stating maintenance;
  • Payments for bonus / overtime must be excluded when the gross income is declared.

Once you have gathered all these documents, upload them to the system by applying through the Financial Aid webpage. You will also find a list of frequently asked questions to help you.

These funds will be made available (when they are available) to students who apply, and will be paid to your student account.

These funds are not bursaries for academic distinction or merit only. They can be used to cover historical debt, the full cost of attendance at UP, be used to top up other bursaries or can be a fixed amount credited to your student account.

If your application is unsuccessful this year, please apply again next year. Remember, when the funding opportunity arises and you meet the specific qualifying criteria, you will be considered. The sooner you apply the sooner you can be considered.

Be sure to pass this message on to your friends too – you never know who else might be struggling financially.

Every rand counts and #UPCares, so help us to help you by applying today.
