Alumni Relations on a mission to create global community of UP ambassadors

Posted on January 29, 2019

The University of Pretoria prides itself on producing graduates with globally competitive skills. This is evident from the increasing number of Tuks alums leading in various professions across the globe. “We are proud of our alumni flying the UP flag across the globe, and want to make sure we stay connected with them,” says Samantha Castle, Senior Manager: Alumni Relations.

As part of creating a global community of Tuks ambassadors, the University hosted dinners for alumni in New York, Boston and London in October 2018. The dinners not only provided an opportunity for alumni to connect with colleagues from the University, but also to get to know fellow alums living in the same city. This also presented an opportunity for ongoing professional networking in that region.

We hope that alumni will give back to the University by opening doors for international partnerships, providing assistance with potential internship and exchange opportunities, coming back as guest speakers, or volunteering as mentors. The University also established a US Foundation, which will make it easy for alums residing in the US to donate and receive a tax certificate. The foundation seeks to raise funds for educational and scientific purposes in support of South African students and academic staff. The funds will also support joint research projects between the University of Pretoria and US universities.

Watch out for upcoming international visits, and let us know about your Tuks alum group overseas!
