The University of Pretoria’s Alumni Relations Office successfully hosted the last of its LeadUP Global Alumni Virtual Chats. In this edition, the panellists were UP alumni who are based across South Africa. The discussion’s topic was 'Global lockdowns: Learning, thriving… or just surviving!' 10.  LeadUP Women Alumni Virtual Chat: ‘UP Women: Looking back, looking ahead, and taking the lead’.

11.  LeadUP: In Conversation with the VC chat

The Justice Ministers of both South Africa and Namibia are alumni of UP. Prof Kupe invited both of them to be his special guests, along with the Dean of our Faculty of Law, Professor Elsabe Schoeman. 12. LeadUPHeritage Month‘Harnessing heritage: How can we leverage the power of our diversity?’

Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at UP, Professor Vasu Reddy, moderated a thought-provoking discussion that dealt with the importance of preserving heritage and embracing diversity, as well as whether a concerted effort should be made to promote a shared culture and heritage in countries as diverse as South Africa.  Took place Thursday, 24 September 2020 click here for a video 

13. LeadUP: Celebrate Boss’s Day: Celebrate Boss’s Day by putting your employees first and committing to a work environment that is free of bullying and intimidation’.

During the online event, Sebenzile Nkambule, Executive Officer for Strategic Partnerships at The Other Foundation, moderated a discussion that featured an expert panel that dealt with several topics including, but not limited to, what constitutes bullying, how it typically plays out in the workplace, and how employers and employees can deal with it. Took place Wednesday, 14 October 2020 click here for a video  

14. LeadUP: In Conversation with the VC: International Relations: Strategies for strengthening SA’s reputation on the global stage’. 

The Honourable Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor, is an alumna of UP (PhD in Education, 2019), and Professor Kupe has invited her and Dr Sithembile Mbete, Senior Lecturer in UP’s Political Sciences Department, to be his guests for the first 2021 instalment in this special series. 15. LeadUP: Alumni Thought Leadership virtual events: Alumni Relations Office recently hosted a discussion to bring together a group of diverse experts and alumni from across the globe to reflect on the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) and disruptions in the engineering field. 16. LeadUP: Alumni Thought Leadership virtual events: Alumni Relations Office hosted a discussion titled ‘Rethinking privatisation towards economic recovery’, this panel discussion brought together a group of diverse experts, that include alumni, to reflect on privatisation towards economic recovery. 17. LeadUP: Alumni Thought Leadership virtual events: ‘Youth employment: How young people, businesses, and government can help turn the tide.’ A recent online discussion hosted by the University of Pretoria’s (UP) Alumni Relations Office focused on the subject of youth employment, and what young people, business and government can do to address the disquieting rate of unemployment among youth in South Africa. 18. LeadUP: In Conversation with the VC virtual events, titled ‘The role of leadership in the context of the 4IR in mining and related industries’

19. LeadUP: Alumni Thought Leadership: Celebrating women in sport 

The UP Alumni Office presented the next instalment in its LeadUP: Alumni Thought Leadership virtual events, titled ‘Celebrating UP Women in Sport.’  This online chat focused on the Tokyo Olympics, the role of sport during a time of crisis, and celebrating UP women athletes. 20. LeadUP: Alumni Thought Leadership: Natural heritage as an agent for social well-being

This online panel discussion brought together a group of diverse experts and alumni to discuss the link between heritage and health, as well as the wonders of the natural environment. The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on both the physical and mental health of citizens, and with Heritage Month being commemorated in September, this was a timely occasion to discuss the role that our natural heritage, work and home environments play in our social well-being. The event took place on Thursday 16 September 2021 click here for a video 

21. LeadUP: Alumni Thought Leadership: The future of agriculture and lessons learnt from the pandemic
