The Chair in Municipal Finance is dedicated to confronting the challenges encountered by African cities and smaller municipalities head-on. With a focus on property taxation, land-based financing tools, expenditure needs, and urban planning, it aims to address these challenges effectively.

Professor Riël Franzsen Research Fellowship
This Research Fellowship is in recognition of Prof Riël Franzsen who was the first Executive Director of the Southern African Tax Institute (SATI) which was launched on 23 June 2002 (the predecessor of the ATI). He was also the first Director of the ATI from when it was launched on 1 July 2007 up to 30 February 2024, when he retired.
