Department of Library Services

The Department of Library Services makes available information resources and enabling spaces that support the university's teaching, learning, and research. As part of that goal, the Special Collections unit plays a stewardship role in the acquisition and preservation of rare and valuable books, manuscripts, pamphlets and other ephemera, making them accessible to students, staff and researchers, as well as safeguarding them for future generations. The uniqueness of the items in special collections means that they are often irreplaceable and therefore require a higher level of security, and specialized handling, user services and regulations. Our primary function is to promote research by providing researchers access to items while ensuring the longevity of those items. Our collections are closed collections so library users can only use them in our reading room, under supervision.
