The WHO Collaborating Centre at the University of Pretoria received official designation by the World Health Organization in 2019. As a WHO Collaborating Centre, we work closely with partners at the WHO Regional Office for Africa (Brazzaville, Congo), the World Health Organization-Headquarters (Geneva), and with communities and centers locally and globally.
Mission and Objectives
Our mission is to integrate health in all policies through capacity building, participatory research, and co-learning in a global community to achieve sustainable development goals.
The WHO Centre at UP has two primary objectives:
- To build teaching capacity in social determinants of health and health in all policies within the member state in WHO Afro Region
- To support WHO's efforts in expanding evidence base through implementation of research on reducing health inequalities by application of inter-sectoral action to address social determinants of health
