UP Centre for the Study of Resilience donates educational books to Atteridgeville institutions

Posted on July 07, 2022

The Centre for the Study of Resilience in the Faculty of Education at UP recently collaborated with Books for Africa to donate educational books to two underserved educational institutions in Atteridgeville, to the west of Pretoria.

More than 12 large boxes of books, covering subjects including science, literature, mathematics, biology, and history, were donated to the PEPPS Motheong Primary and Secondary School and the Botshelo Ba Sechaba After-School Centre run by retired teachers.

Retired teachers from the Peace Education Centre were overjoyed when they received the wide range of books.

The After-School Centre is the former home of retired Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke. Justice Moseneke donated the home to be converted to the Education Peace Centre in 2021 when retired educators saw a need to support learners after lockdown periods that left learners falling behind on their school work due to attending classes on alternating schedules. The centre starts operating from 1pm each day to receive learners dropped off by transport and help them with homework and school tasks.

Staff members at PEPPS Motheong and Botshelo Ba Sechaba were overjoyed when they received the wide range of books.
