Prof. Rhena Delport

Prof. Delport qualified as a nurse at the Potchefstroomse University for Christian Higher Education in 1975.  Since then, she has come a long way in the fields of education and chemical pathology; her highest qualification in these fields is an MEd and PhD respectively.  Prior to her appointment in the Skills Laboratory in late 2006, she worked as the Senior Education Consultant to the Faculty of Natural- and Agricultural Sciences from 2001.  Prof. Delport’s main interests include environmental exposure, 
cardiovascular disease, medical education and medical professionalism.

She has made numerous research contributions in peer-reviewed journals; recent research of hers has been published in journals such as the Clinical
Chemistry, the Medical Teacher and the Environmental Health Perspectives.

She facilitated the process of developing a Charter for Medical Professionalism and recently implemented a model for peer-assisted learning to guide students' skills acquisition during voluntary practice sessions which greatly improved student throughput.  She facilitated the development of a Patient’s Rights charter, which as become an authoritative text in medical ethics.  With her love for teaching and research, she is a huge asset to the Skills Lab.
