The Department of Statistics at the University of Pretoria (UP) is partnering with the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) to develop and validate a first-ever Global Volunteer Index by a UN agency.
The initial phase of this project focuses on developing a framework and methodology for calculating the Global Volunteer Index (GVI). This index will be featured in the upcoming edition of the State of the World’s Volunteerism Report, scheduled for release in December 2025.
The Global Volunteer Index will provide timely and reliable volunteer work data and statistics to measure people's voluntary contributions to the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
