A Food Systems Summit Brief prepared by research partners of the Scientific Group for the Food Systems Summit has been released. "Cost and Affordability of Preparing a Basic Meal around the World" by WA Masters, EM Martinez, F Gerb, A Herforth, and SL Hendriks looks at the current market prices for the most affordable items needed to prepare basic meals in 168 countries around the world, while also considering cooking methods and requirements, and accessing food products.
With over 690 million people chornically undernourished and around 3 billion people still unable to afford enough of the diverse foods needed for a healthy diets, it is long overdue that studies such as this one is conducted and that the results are considered when designing policies and programmes in the food environment.
