#TuksNetball: Jaguars off to a winning start in the Telkom Netball League

Posted on October 14, 2020

The Jaguars netball team started their defence of the Telkom League title on a winning note this morning by beating the Flames 34-31 in Bloemfontein.

Tuks's head coach, Jenny van Dyk, who also coaches the Jaguars, is, for now, satisfied with her team's performance.

"It turned out to be 'ding-dong' battle. The lead continuously changed. From a spectator’s point of view, it might not have been nice to watch. Both teams made far too many errors, but I guess that is to be expected. It is the first time in nearly eight months the players had the opportunity to play competitively."

Van Dyk was impressed with how her team was able to close out the game.

"The players never lost focus. Every time the Flames took the lead, they were able to lift their game to retake control."

According to Van Dyk, the decisions they as coaches make over the next 13 days could be of cardinal importance.

"To possibly play 13 games in 14 days is going to be tough. You don't want your players to be burned out, but then again the team needs to win. It makes it difficult. As the coach, you really got to think when and for how long you are going to play each player."

Tuks's Jasmine Ziegelmeier received the Moment Maker-award afterwards.

The Jaguars will play the Stars tomorrow at 15:00.
