Posted on October 04, 2016

With the pool stages of this year’s Varsity Netball competition coming to an end on Monday 03 October, the UP – Tuks ladies have forged forwarded with a notable impact thus far. 7 games, 7 wins, 7 FNB player of the match awards and 7 new faces. Spirits are high in camp. With so much international netball going on, the UP-Tuks new faces have gotten a chance to shine.

Kim-Lee Swanepoel, a Higher Certificate in Sport Science student got her first call up in to the match day 12 and starting line-up against VUT on Monday. She says: “It was a great honour and experience playing for Tuks Varsity Netball and being in the starting line-up. I felt proud because this was one of my goals for this year and I feel proud of myself for achieving it”.

Anke Nothnagel who we saw on the team sheet in week 1, also got to embrace the opportunity of representing the University at this auspicious occasion. The 1st year BSc Agric Animal Sciences Student says: “It is a childhood dream coming true-since I saw Tuks play for the first time in grade 7. There is only one word to describe it - WOW! What an honour it was to play for TuksNetball alongside my teammates and to represent the University. It was an amazing experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything. This is a memory that will stay with me and I will cherish it for the rest of my life.”

Second year BA Sports Coaching Student Duné Streutker had this to say about her first time on court: “It was a thrilling experience to be out on the court, to play alongside such good players. I cannot wait to improve my performance and to work on the mistakes that I made! I hope I get the honour to play again alongside these brilliant players.”

Tuks are ready to face the ladies from PE in their semi-final encounter on Monday 10 October 2016. The ladies that are currently on national duty will be back in full force.
