On 14 September 2024, the
Department of Taxation at the University of Pretoria hosted its second annual open tax lecture for prospective MCom
Taxation students. This event offered the prospective students the opportunity to experience a lecture firsthand and engage with current students and lecturers before the application deadline on 30 September.
The event welcomed 37 guest students, who joined the current 2024 cohort of 38 students. Prof Hanneke du Preez, Head of the Department of Taxation, warmly greeted the attendees, setting a welcoming tone for the day. Following this, the session transitioned into a dynamic, discussion-based class, facilitated by Sumarie Swanepoel, the course coordinator.
Feedback from the prospective students was overwhelmingly positive. All respondents, even those who had not necessarily planned to study at UP, expressed that they were more likely to choose UP after attending the lecture. One participant commented, "The lecture was really well conducted, and for me, it was a selling point to complete my application."
The Department of Taxation is proud to offer this annual opportunity, guiding prospective students to make informed decisions about their academic journey. We look forward to welcoming new members to the UP Tax family!
