Audiology Associate Professor graduates from prestigious DHET: Future Professors Programme

The Department of Higher Education and Training, Future Professors Programme (FFP) has been endorsed by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology. This prestigious programme aims to cultivate a new cohort of proficient professors across disciplines to enhance academic excellence and leadership in South African higher education. The programme annually selects eligible scholars from South African public universities for a two-year fellowship, forming three cohorts of 20 to 30 fellows each. Phase 1 of the programme was spearheaded by Prof Jonathan Jansen and his operational team, comprising Prof Jackie du Toit, Prof Sibusiso Moyo, and Prof Neil Roos. This dedicated team has been instrumental in providing invaluable guidance and support toward achieving the programme objectives. 

Prof Faheema Mahomed-Asmail, an Associate Professor at the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, University of Pretoria, formed part of the 2021-2022 cohort that recently graduated from the Programme. The ceremony was held on March 29th, 2024, at the Univerity of Mpumalanga, followed by seminars at the Kruger Gate Hotel. Esteemed researchers, including Prof James Ogude (Director at the Centre for the Advancement of Scholarship, University of Pretoria), Prof Karen Barnes (CCOAT Founding Director & Principal Investigator Professor, UCT Division of Clinical Pharmacology), Dr. Danny Govender (Head of Sustainability, SANDParks), and Prof Nthabiseng Ogude (dean of the Faculty of Mamelodi, University of Pretoria), enriched the seminars with the expertise and insights. Prof Mahomed-Asmail's participation in the programme underscores her commitment to academic excellence and leadership, further solidifying her dedication through her recent graduation.
