May is Speech, Language, Hearing Month: Everyone Has a Voice - Communication Matters!
Each May, we celebrate Speech, Language, and Hearing Month, raising awareness about the vital role that communication plays in every stage of life. From a child’s first words to regaining speech after illness, the ability to communicate connects us, empowers us, and enables us to thrive.
This year, the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the University of Pretoria proudly joins the global movement to highlight the importance of speech, language, and hearing health. Whether it is supporting a toddler's language development, assisting adults with hearing loss, or helping patients recover their voice after a medical event - our work centres on one powerful truth: everyone has a voice, and communication matters.
Through services ranging from hearing assessments and speech therapy to early intervention and rehabilitative care, our department is committed to ensuring access to communication for all.
As the poster reminds us with striking images from our clinical practice and outreach, this month is a celebration, but also a call to action. Let’s work together to build a world where every voice is heard and every person can communicate with confidence.
