The Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology is the first academic South African partner of the R.A.D.A.R unit situated in Greece

On the 25th of February, Dr Salomé Geertsema and Dr Mia le Roux (joined by two postgraduate students), had a visitor from Greece for training. Mr Vasilis Andreadakis (MSc) is a training partner for a novel screening method for dyslexia: "Rapid Assessment for Dyslexia and Abnormalities in Reading (R.A.D.A.R)". First founded by Professor Ioannis Aslanides, Medical Director of Emmetropia Eye Institute, the programme has teamed up with several partners in its global validation studies. The R.A.D.A.R unit specialises in applications of eye tracking technology, with a special focus on dyslexia. It holds multiple patents for both eye tracking hardware and medical software. Current research partners include Professors at Harvard University (U.S.A) and Cardiff Metropolitan University (Wales), with the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, University of Pretoria, its first academic South African partner.
