Newborn Hearing Screening: Opening up opportunities for better outcomes

This two day workshop will present an in-depth look at the journey from newborn hearing screening through assessment, diagnosis and on into early intervention and family support.  International experts in research and service delivery in the field will examine the challenges and opportunities presented to professionals throughout the pathway, in the light of international protocols, policies and practices, and the growing research evidence base that early identification, followed by quality intervention, leads to improved outcomes for deaf children.

The workshop will be presented by:

Gwen Carr, Deputy Director of the England Newborn Hearing Screening Programme and Deputy Director of the Medical Research Council Hearing and Communication Group at the University of Manchester, UK;

Professor Alys Young, Professor of Social Work Education and Research and Director of SORD (Social Research with Deaf People programme), University of Manchester, UK.
