A keen focus on this seeks to engage at the interface between indigenous conceptions of land and colonial conceptions of land in social anthropology and literature (oral, colonial settler literature and African literature). Our primary engagement will be with literary imagination and responses to the environment, generally called eco-criticism, at especially the interface between state actors, civil society and capital in environmental conservation. The focus is on how African story tellers and artists imagine the environment.
