Drama students win a top award at the JOMBA festival

Posted on September 28, 2021

Honours student, Carrick Keating, and Kagiso Masinda, a graduate of the School of the Arts: Drama were awarded first prize in the JOMBA! Open Horizons (short form) platform for their screendance work Fenya. Open Horizons is part of the JOMBA! Contemporary Dance Experience, a digital festival that took place from 24 August to 5 September 2021. Fenya was created in 2020 as part of a student exam project at School of the Arts: Drama. A JOMBA! reviewer describes Fenya as ‘a powerful collaboration between performer Kagiso Masinda and director Carrick Keating. With a stunning embrace of screendance as a union between technology and body, the work creates a divided dimension torn between Setswana pride and contemporary impositions.’
