BAdmin@Tuks hosts live Instagram event

Posted on May 11, 2021

The Executive Committee of BAdmin@Tuks – the student society representing students that are studying towards a BAdmin degree – recently held their first event of the term with Prof Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu, Director of the School of Public Management and Administration (SPMA) as the guest speaker. The theme was “I will win".

The objective of this event was firstly to instill a winning spirit in all BAdmin students, and the student body at large, at the start of the academic year. The second objective was to encourage students to work hard against all odds throughout the academic year. Lastly, the session aimed to inform students about the various job opportunities available with a BAdmin degree. Prof Chitiga-Mabugu was considered to be a relevant guest speaker, not only because of her position at the university, but also the milestones she has reached in academia.

Prof Chitiga-Mabugu shared some powerful and vital principles in order to win and overcome academic obstacles that she has applied in her own life. Principles such as "have a community of people that will push you when you can't push yourself"; "strive to become a better version of yourself than you were yesterday"; and "winning starts with wanting to win – want it before you work towards it!"

Furthermore, she touched on her experience in working closely with government. She expressed how much more effective the government would be if more governmental decisions (louche as in the case of COVID-19) were informed by scientific/academic research. Prof Chitiga-Mabugu also expressed how important it is to have well informed and educated leaders in government.

The virtual event was structured in such a way that people were able to ask questions. She not only emphasised her availability, but the availability of the entire SPMA and the Faculty Student Advisors to help and/or advise students with regards to their academics.

BAdmin students found the live session to be inspirational, as well as highly motivational, and more sessions are planned on various topics. Click here to follow BAdmin@Tuks on Instagram.
