Due to the current social distancing circumstances brought about by the global coronavirus outbreak, University of Pretoria students have been learning online. According to the public sector ethics lecturing team, online teaching and learning has not been easy for all students, who have had no face-to-face contact in almost two months.
Prof Natasja Holtzhausen (lecturer), Martin Kizito (teaching assistant) and tutors Nokukhanya Mthimunye and Ruvimbo Musiyarira decided to do something that would make the students feel and remember that they are still here for them, supporting them and encouraging them. They created a collage with each one of them holding a placard so that students would know that they are always available for them.
They took a picture with the words "WE'RE HERE FOR YOU". The students appreciated knowing that their lecturers and tutors are there for them and encouraging them to keep going, with whatever resources they have! Students, especially in times like these, need to be reminded that they are not alone and there is always someone to reach out to.
