SPMA Director attends the Global Trade Analysis Project

Posted on July 31, 2019

The Director of the School of Public Management and Administration (SPMA), Prof Chitiga-Mabugu, attended the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) conference from 19 to 21 June 2019 in Warsaw, Poland.  She presented a paper on behalf of her co-authors titled ‘Impact of climate change on vulnerable groups on South African labour markets’.

Prof Chitiga-Mabugu reported: “The presentation was very well received and generated a lot of debate, especially because it tries to model gender issues into climate change policy. The debates were centred on technical issues, including how to fully capture women’s time and include the full spectrum of their work, at home and out of the home.”

She further explained that there were also some discussions on the exact magnitudes of the impact of climate change in sectoral productivity, especially the agriculture and the water sectors. “Delegates from the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) were very keen for collaborative research. There are ongoing discussions with these colleagues after the conference to see how to collaborate on this topic,” she concluded.
