Posted on November 19, 2018

Prof Margaret Chitiga-Mabugu, Director of the School of Public Management and Administration, was recently appointed as a member of two prestigious associations both locally and abroad.  She was one of eight staff members from the University of Pretoria that were inaugurated as part of the cohort of 20 new Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) members. The objective of ASSAF is to use science for the benefit of society, while also recognising and rewarding excellence and promoting innovation and scholarly activity.

She was also appointed to serve as a member of the Science Advisory Council (SAC) of the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) for a term of four years, effective from October 2018. The SEI is governed by a board, which is appointed by the Swedish government. The role of SAC is to provide strategic guidance and advice on SEI's research, regarding both the implementation of the current strategy and the development of future strategy cycles. In light of these developments, Prof Chitiga-Mabugu emphasised: “I commit to continue to use my research to make a difference in our community.”
