“I am very happy with the result as our performance was a vast improvement on that against Dromedaris,” said Maroela coach Etienne van der Merwe.
He added that Maroela played very well in the first 40 and last 10 minutes, but “we still need to get it together for the whole 80 minutes. I was very impressed with our defence and ball retention. That ensured good continuity.”
Van der Merwe paid tribute to the substantial contribution of two of the youngest players in the team, both first year students.
“Theuns Jacobs (flank) and Rudolph Smith (No 8) were outstanding. Special mention should also be made of the fine performance by wing Jaco Myburgh,” said Van der Merwe.
Myburgh, Fritz Reynders, Jan-Spruyt Steenkamp and Shaun Eastman socred Maroela’s tries. Adriaan Bornman added the rest of the points with two conversions.
