Champions (x2) clash at Loftus

There is a lot at stake for Tuks after their disappointing performance against Police on Saturday, 4 April. Tuks were beaten 35-34 despite of the fact that they scored two more tries than Police (6-4).

Tuks head coach Freddie Grobler said the defeat against Police could be the turning point for his team, not only in successfully defending their championship crown, but also in their bid to qualify for the National Club Championships later this year in Pretoria.

The ‘rebuilding’ process is evident in the many chances to the starting line-up which fell short against Police.

Four of the eight chances were however forced by the injuries of winger Kruger van Heerden , centre Gerhard van der Merwe, scrumhalf Ignick Windvogel and fiery loose forward Daniel Nichols.

Three players will make their debut in the starting XV (right wing Hein Pretorius, flyhalf Stanley Twiname, scrumhalf Danie Faasen), whilst No 8 Coenraad Pieterse will have his first start of the season.

The match against Centurion kicks off at 19:00.

Tuks’ team is:

Fanie Booysen; Hein Pretorius, Gerrit Smit, Franco Booysen, Pieter Gothan; Stanley , Twiname, Danie Faasen; Coenraad Pieterse, Devin Oosthuizen, Louis van Biljon, Erich van der Westhuizen, Johan de Bruin (c), Jacques Botha, Kurt Haupt, Ettienne Breytenbach. REPLACEMENTS: AJ le Roux, Danie Oosthuizen, Jannes Seegers, Juan Palm, Willoughby Bloem, Chandre Boshoff, Marcel Snyman.
