22 year old Wesleigh, Tuks’ scrumhalf, says it is a huge honour and privilege to have 19 year old Donnovan (inside centre) as his team mate in a Carlton Cup final.

“We joined forces earlier this season when we played together for the first time, but there is a significant difference between playing hostel rugby for Maroela and representing Tuks in die Carlton League.”

According to Wesleigh Carlton Cup rugby is so much more intense and competitive.

“When you play for you hostel, a lot of emphasis is placed at just enjoying the game. The stakes are however much higher when you play for Tuks. To have my brother at my side in the final, will therefore be very, very special,” said Wesleigh.

He has little doubt that his brother, who still played his rugby for Pretoria Boys High last year, will stand his ground as he has the mental strength of a much older player.

The Marais brothers made their debut for Tuks I in the Carlton Cup second round match against Brits. Tuks won 130-0, with Wesleigh scoring five of the 20 tries.

On the final itself, Wesleigh commented: “I’m very positive. As long as we believe in ourselves, we have a realistic change to win. We have an abundance of talent, which will more than make up for our lack of experience.”
